Tools to collaborate in groups
There are many tools that you can use to collaborate in groups and manage group projects. As a University of Auckland student, you have access to cloud based Microsoft Office and Google Apps and some of these apps are recommended below.
How to access Microsoft and Google Apps
To access Microsoft apps:
- Go to MS Office Home
- Click on ‘Sign in’ at the top right-hand side of the page
- Enter your username@uoa.auckland.ac.nz and click ‘Next’. Note: your username is a combination of your first name, last name and some numbers, e.g. bsmi002
- You will be redirected to the University of Auckland’s authentication page. Enter your university login details to sign in
To access apps from the Google Suite:
- Go to Google accounts introduction
- Click on ‘Sign in’ at the top right-hand side of the page
- Enter your username@aucklanduni.ac.nz and click ‘Next’. Note: your username is a combination of your first name, last name and some numbers, e.g. bsmi002
- You will be redirected to the University of Auckland’s authentication page. Enter your university login details to sign in
Tools to create shared online spaces
Facebook Groups allows you to create online spaces for your group to communicate, share files and create events. MS Sharepoint allows you to create team sites, and work collaboratively on documents in any of the MS Office 365 apps. Find out more about how to create a Sharepoint team site
Tools to share and collaboratively work on documents
Google Docs Login with your university Google account details to create, share and work collaboratively on documents.
MS Word Login with your university MS Office account details to create, share and work collaboratively on documents.
Tools to manage group projects
Trello Trello allows you to capture, organise and monitor key group project tasks. You can also assign tasks to specific members.
Kanban This is not a tool per se, its a project management method to ensure key tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner. You might like to apply the Kanban method to a Trello project. Watch the video for more details.
